31DC2014: Day 26

Hey everyone! Today's theme is Inspired by a Pattern. I had an amazing idea for these nails however the nail strips I needed to use were crap stickers and they did not stay on my nails and I was very mad because it would have been great. I'm going to have to bank that idea for later and do it a different way.

So I had to last-minute change my idea. I was sitting at my nail table and decided to do the pattern from my polish drawers!

You may remember that back in the day I did a tutorial on how to Mod Podge scrapbook paper onto your Melmer drawers to dress them up. A lot of people did theirs too! After a year or so I decided to redo mine after finding this amazingly cute wrapping paper. Much less obnoxious than my last choices. Haha!

Now that I am looking at this I feel like I did it before! But I can't remember and I don't want to look. LOL.

I started with a white base and did the leopard with China Glaze - Exotic Encounters and OPI - Mermaids Tears.

What do you guys think? It's leopard, of course you do.

31DC2014: Day 22

Heeeey! Get ready - this is gonna be a good one.
I was really worried that nothing could come close to last year's Inspired by a Song post with The Thong Song nails (clearly I was ahead of the times with the booty nails last year) so I kept the booty theme going and went for... Anaconda!

I'm sure you're all familiar with Anaconda and the performance at the VMAs! I was totally loving the green sparkly snakeskin outfit and I had to recreate it on my nails.
I actually did these on like the 3rd of September because I was going to use them for the green theme, but then I just had to save them for today. I have been holding them in since then. It's been hard.

They started with a base of China Glaze - Exotic Encounters.
I randomly applied green glitter all over the place with China Glaze - This Is Tree-mendous (lol) and China Glaze - Emerald Sparkled.
The snakeskin stamp is from Bundle Monster plate BM-215 and I first stamped it using Color Club - Perfect Mol-Ten but it wasn't as visible as I wanted, so I added some more in scattered areas with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Lickety-Split Lime and that totally made the effect I wanted.

Guhhhhhh I just love how they turned out! I was so mad when I had to take them off after just a few hours.

What do you guys think? Did I capture the look? Green sparkly nails are always my fave, I'll be doing these again as a full mani and wearing them for like a week. For sure. As soon as the challenge is over.

31DC2014: Day 13

It'ssssss my birthdaaaaaay!! The big 24. And once again, the theme for the 31 Day Challenge happens to be Animal Print and it's great.
Every year I do leopard which is kinda predictable I guess but it's my favorite nail look to wear so why not? It's my birthday after all!

This year I was inspired by my favorite birthday gift...

OMG this watch gives me life. And so do the nails!!

I had to use the perfect polish for a manicure inspired by the Betsey Johnson leopard print.
Sephora by OPI - It's My Pink from the Betsey collection. And it's even scented like her perfume! I can totally smell it even through my smelly Seche Vite.

I did the leopard a bit different from what I usually do to more closely mimic the Betsey pattern, and it takes a bit longer thanks to the added attention to the detail however I reallyyyy like the look it produces and I will probably do it more often now.
I used a small nail art brush to do the choppy black spots. The pink on the insides is an unnamed Art Club striper polish.

31DC2013 - day 26

OMG it is Day 26 of the 31 Day Challenge and I am even doing this post before 11pm at night! I must have had a lot of free time today... Not really. But enough to get this done before the last minute!

The theme for today is Inspired By A Pattern and I decided to do a manicure I have been meaning to do for a long time...

A LEOPARD MANI TO MATCH MY HAIR BRUSH OH YEAH.

I am stupid obsessed with my hair brush. Not only is it beautiful but I just love how it feels. It doesn't rip my hair out and the little balls on the tips of the bristles are actually part of the bristle and don't break off and turn your brush into a scratchy weapon of scalp death.
I love my brush so much I bought backups. Yeah. I got 99 problems and a hairbrush ain't one.
I got mine at Winners and Ross, so check those types of stores for them if you want one.

If the people at Ionika are reading this post I would totally accept free hair brushes as a perk for this kind advertisement. LOL.
(I also have a mini hair straightener from them which I got at Marshall's for only TEN DOLLARS and it is totally awesome too and dual voltage so you can take it to Europe without electrocuting yourself.)

Maybe I should moonlight as a hair blogger, too.

Back to the nails for a second, I went on a throwback and broke out an old favorite Sally Hansen from when I just started blogging. (Hey it is Thursday! Throwback Thursday! #TBT!)
The base is Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure - Trouble Maker.
The leopard was done with Sally Hansen X-treme Wear - Lacey Lilac and some black polish with a dotting tool.

FIVE MORE DAYS LET'S DO THIS GUYS.

31DC2013 - day 13

Hey! It's my birthday! I'm in Chicago! I'm at Riot Fest! All is dandy.
And today is Animal Print day for the 31 Day Challenge! My favorite day, obvi.

Okay I cheated a tiny bit with this mani and added leopard over my gradient from Day 10, but can you blame me? I had to do almost a whole week of posts in advance...

The gradient was done with two polishes, Ciate - Pepperminty and Ciate - Kiss Chase. I used a sponge (and patience) to create the look.

I added dots with one of my all time faves, China Glaze - That's Shore Bright, a neon purple. I just did messy dots with the polish brush.

And then I added the black detail with a small dotting tool.

Gradients with leopard print are just so beautiful to me and I would seriously wear this every day if I could only choose one type of design for the rest of my life. Soooooo into it. And I know you guys are too!!
Prob one of my favorite manis ever.
Happy birthday to me!

piCture pOlish blog fest 2013! the year of the blogger!

Hello everyone and Happy Blogfest! That's right - I am once again participating in piCture pOlish's annual Blog Fest celebration.
This year's theme is the Year of the Blogger. "This year it’s all about you and celebrating what you do!"
And what's even more interesting is this year, we all have to create a wonderful nail art manicure using three shades sent to us by the very generous girls ar piCture pOlish. There is going to be an overwhelming amount of amazing manis today guys!
Being that I am in Newfoundland, North America's most easterly point, my post will be one of the first from this continent! Woo! (Everyone is posting at 7pm local time.)
I'm sure you all have seen the fantastic blogger collaboration polishes that PP has been releasing... And the three winners this year will get to create their own shades!
The voting will happen on the special Blog Fest Pinterest board
here.

Without further ado... Here's my manicure.

The colors chosen for me were Marine, Mad Magenta, and Citrus. I was so happy to get three great creme shades!

piCture pOlish - Marine
This is a beautiful teal creme polish with a great formula. 2 coats, no issues. And no staining! I've worn this like three times since receiving it a few weeks ago... Haha!
piCture pOlish - Mad Magenta
This is a shade I always wanted from PP so I was so happy to find it in my package! Again, two easy coats. This has been on my toes ever since the day I got it! Great toe color.

piCture pOlish - Citrus
This is my least favorite of the three, just because it is orange. Not an orange fan. But it works for me in nail art with other colors! Just as with the other two, two coats, no issues.
So... What kind of art did I do? I'll give you one guess...

Leopard print!!!
I struggled for a long time with whether or not I wanted to do leopard print. I've done it a lot and I know a lot of people would be going all-out with intense, new designs. But in the end I decided hey, it is so me, I should just go for it!

Another part of this year's Blog Fest is that we also have to do tutorials! So here's how I created this manicure.

First of all, you're gonna need a small dotting tool, your clean-up brush (and polish remover) and a makeup sponge. (Don't forget that you can use the same sponge over and over by cutting off the used parts! The one I've used here looks like it has helped me in many manis! Haha!)

The first thing you need to do is the gradient. I like to use two techniques together to create the most flawless gradient.
First, apply your base color (Citrus) and allow it to dry almost completely.
Next, blob some Mad Magenta onto your work surface (scrap paper, wax paper, stamping plate, whatever). Using a small edge of the sponge, begin to build the color onto the tip and fading down into the nail. For a more detailed tutorial of this technique, check out this post I did ages and ages ago when I was still a newbie! (Even though the pictures aren't up to my current standard, the post still has lots of great tips.)

To blend the gradient even more and perfect the fade, I use the second gradient technique. There is a great tutorial for this by The Nailasaurus
Basically, you paint lines of the two colors on your work surface, swirl it a little in the middle, and then dip the sponge in/around it to pick up the two colors and the blended part in the middle.
You sponge this onto your entire nail all at once, dabbing several times to continue to blend the colors.
You'll need to do this a couple times to get enough polish in the sponge to be able to do all your nails.

The reason I like to do both techniques at once is because I find the first technique doesn't create the smoothest gradient, and the second one on its own requires too many coats to build the second color if you don't already have some on the nail. So do both. Got it?

Get yo' clean up on, girrrrrrl. The sponging techniques can leave a big mess. Use your clean up brush (and optionally some Q-tips first) to get all the polish off of your skin.

Once you're all clean, add the first step of your leopard print with Marine. I just do those blobs irregularly with the brush from the polish itself. It does not need to be perfect or neat at all! All leopards are different, right?

Then you have to add the black detail with a black polish and your small dotting tool. Again, don't stress about being neat and perfect. Just make random shapes like C shapes and O shapes and dots and lines and whatever you think looks right.
You can do it big, small, on your full nail, just in some areas - however you feel!

You add topcoat and tada! You're done! Aren't they pretty?
I'm happy I decided to go with the leopard print because I just love the way it looks. I think I'll wear this manicure for a week at least.

Thank you so much to the girls at piCture pOlish for letting me participate in this great tradition once again! And happy Blog Fest to all!

sunsational gradient with - wait for it... LEOPARD

Holy crap, this week flew by and I didn't even notice. I thought it had been maybe three days since my last post... But it's been over a week!! CRAP.
I do have a few posts lined up for the next week though. :)

Today's post is yet another gradient leopard. I die for gradients with leopard prints. You probably already know that.

Turquoise. Gradient. Leopard. China Glaze Sunsational Neons. It doesn't get much better.

I did this manicure with four polishes from the Sunsational collection (plus a black, of course.)
This is not a typical sponging-gradient, you just do this by adding layers of the very transparent jelly polishes to build up the color. Check out my last Sunsational-jelly-gradient here for a bit more detail if you need it.

It started with a base of China Glaze - Too Yacht To Handle, the brightest blue.
I first began the jelly-gradient with China Glaze - Keepin' It Teal, the teal jelly (obvi.)
I deepened the tip of the gradient with some China Glaze - Isle See You Later, the blue jelly.
Then I added dots with the light green, China Glaze - Highlight of My Summer, and used black to finish off the print.

For some reason, my camera didn't want to really pick up the gradient. I think the colors are just too bright! Too Yacht To Handle in particular is like BAM and my camera is like NO.

Here's the gradient before the leopard. Mmm, so beachy and summery.

It matches my new phone case! Haha! (Which I scored for just $2 at Michael's, by the way!)

Hope you guys like these nails! See you tomorrow with some Essie swatches...

sunsational leopard

I'm not really sure why I keep disappearing for several days, but hey, here I am again!

I recently treated myself to the entire China Glaze Sunsational collection, AKA the 2013 summer neons...
You may remember that last year I won the entire set of 2012 neons and so for some reason I felt like I needed all the 2013 ones as well. Right? Right.
(Plus the majority of them are totally "me" colors so SHUSH.)

I haven't yet had a chance to swatch them all but I've worn a few, and here's one of the ways I wore them.

The purple polish is China Glaze - That's Shore Bright and I think it is already safe to say that it is my favorite of the collection. It is a fantastic bright purple creme, I wouldn't call it neon but it is very vibrant. Full-on neon polishes tend to look funny on me so I am really happy with this collection overall because none of them are eye-searing, they're all just really bright and fun.
The formula of TSB is fantastic - it needed just two coats and had no application issues.

The green is China Glaze - Highlight of My Summer. This one was a little more finicky to apply, and it will drag if you aren't careful to use a light touch and let it dry just a tiny bit longer between coats. If you let it drag, you'll need three coats to cover your bald spots, but if you're careful you can get away with two.
Despite that minor annoyance, I still adore this polish and I love how it is like a neon pastel.

I did the leopard print freehand with a dotting tool.

NEON PASTELS. GIVE ME ALL OF THEM.

delayed valentines day mani!

Hey guys! I totally meant to post this manicure yesterday for Valentines day but I forgot.
I've had a busy week with an exam and a midterm assignment plus working plus my usual time spent being sick plus a new found addiction to Candy Crush Saga... Anyway...
Better late than never?

I did a mani inspired by my Valentines Day Hello Kitty!

Isn't she sweet? Hehehe. And do you like how I got my HK pajamas in the shot?

It didn't turn out as perfectly as I had hoped, but when you don't inspect it too closely, it's still adorable!

I've seen lots of this leopard print with hearts going around lately, and it is so cute! I will definitely have to try it again soon and hopefully do a little better... Haha!

The base color for this mani was China Glaze - Dance Baby.
I did the red detailing with OPI - Comet Loves Cupid.
And I mixed the two together for the color inside the print.

Hope you guys like this mani even though it is a day late. Oh well!
