Dermablend Cover Creme Foundation Review!

And now for something completely different...
A makeup review!! What the what?!

That's right, I'm branching out. I am somewhat hesitant in this new endeavor because it means posting pictures of my face (gasp) which means taking 4,001 photos before deciding one is decent enough for the internet to see. I truly don't know how you veteran makeup bloggers do it all the time! I feel so self conscious doing it but hey, let's jump in with both feet.
I'm pretty excited about it too because I recently have become a total makeup junkie. Nail polish is a GATEWAY DRUG.

Here's what has prompted this whole thing: I was sent a really cool product to try out: Dermablend Cover Creme Foundation from Nail Polish Canada. (Me and NPC, branching out together! Haha! Watch out, makeup world.)

Read my review after the jump.

This line of foundation and concealer is touted as the #1 most recommended coverage product by dermatologists in North America. So of course I was like "yup, gimme."
Now, I was never really a foundation-wearer, I'll just use some powder if I'm feeling blotchy. I am really lucky in that I have clear skin which I even get complimented on regularly.
But then. I put this stuff on my face. And it was like OH MY GOD I COULD HAVE LOOKED LIKE THIS? IT GETS THIS GOOD? OH I HAVE BEEN SO DEPRIVED!
So now whenever I need to look extra fab and great and pristine I turn to my little pot of porcelain happiness.

Oh gosh there's my face. Hello. Lips are Urban Decay Anarchy, if you were wondering.
I just really can't believe how good it looks. And I don't look orange, and I don't look cakey. And it doesn't feel like my face is covered in gunk. Everything I once hated about foundation is gone and I am just gonna use this forever and ever amen.

The foundation is solid, almost like a hard lip balm. I'd never encountered foundation in this form so I was really intrigued. It's versatile in that you can use however much or however little you like to build the kind of coverage you need. And the one jar of it will last FOREVER because you really don't need much at all for coverage payoff. I've barely made a dent in the surface. (You can use the included little scoopy tool to mix it and stuff, too. But I just get right in there.)

There is a whole pile of shades for every skin tone, but I am paler-than-pale thus I chose Pale Ivory (which is shade Chroma 0.) I am extremely pleased to announce that I probably even could get away with the next shade up (Chroma 1/2) so for those of you struggling with extreme paleness like me, you can try this stuff!

I like to apply this foundation with my fingers because where it is a solid, you need the warmth to get it going. You can't really just rub a brush in there. Once you get product onto your face you can further blend with a brush or my personal fave, a beauty blending sponge.
You should also set the product with a setting powder for its true level of greatness. (Dermablend makes one which you can also find on NPC, but I didn't have that so I just added my usual Bare Minerals powder on top with my beauty blending sponge for maximum flawlessness.)
And another little tip I wanna add is that you shouldn't skip the blush when you're using this - it's got such great coverage that it will cover any natural flush you may have going on, so add some color back in, girl!

The true test of this product for me was the task of covering my under-eye dark circles. Mine are bad and I am not just talking I-didn't-get-enough-sleep-bad, I am talking auto-immune-disease-bad. I won't bore you with details but I get preeeeetty sick and my under-eye darkness can actually even take over my inner corners and go up the bridge of my nose and also up the outer sides of my eye.
Concealer is my friend. Well, it was my friend. Now I just need my Dermablend! (That rhymed.)

WHAT DARK CIRCLES? (Eyes here done with Urban Decay Naked 3.)

I took a long time doing this review because I wanted to make sure the product was actually great before writing about it. I did a lot of wear tests and I found myself coming home at 5am on New Year's and taking (hilarious) photos of my face to show you my foundation was still on after hitting up 4 different parties.

Did I really just post this one...?
Lipstick - gone. False eyelashes - off. Foundation - perf.

Aaaaand for entertainment value and also the advice from fellow makeup junkies to show the product in "natural light," here's me and my new sunnies today.

Tadaaa! (Lippy: Lime Crime - Countessa Fluorescent)

I think I spoke too much in this post already so I'll end it short and sweet:
This foundation is the bomb and I am officially converted. Never gonna give u up.

You can find a full range of Dermablend products here on NailPolishCanada.com and they all ship free within Canada! Plus cheap shipping elsewhere, too.

And it is one stop shopping over there because you can find my very own Siren Song there too... Shameless plug? HA!

  3. The close up is great because it literally looks like you have nothing on, no caking or anything. Hmmm! Tempting, I will add it to the list. Right now I am trying out the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye, but maybe this will be next!

  4. This was a great review. I especially appreciate your commentary on how the shade did with your natural skin color. I'm also a super duper pale girl and I'm much more keen on trying out this product now that I've seen someone with similar skintone giving it such a high rating. I also suffer from dark circles so that portion of your review was greatly appreciated. Your skin looks SO smooth though, like it was airbrushed. I'd love to know if Dermablend has any smoothing properties or if you're just that lucky. Thanks for the review!
