Revlon - Facets of Fuchsia

Hi everyone!

I had planned on posting a product review today but time got away from me (as usual) so I am doing this short post instead, because I don't want another day to go by without a post!

I do have the other one written but I would rather post that earlier in the day, because it seems like more people read blogs in the day time! Hehe. So that will be up tomorrow.

In the meantime... A polish I wanted to love but it did not want to love me.

Revlon - Facets of Fuchsia
The much-talked-about dupe of Deborah Lippmann's Bad Romance.
I wanted this so bad because I wanted Bad Romance so bad.
But then when I got it, I neglected it and kinda forgot about it, until one day a few weeks ago.
But I wish I hadn't remembered it... It was awful.

I have heard many people saying they don't like Revlon because their polishes "never dry." I thought those people were just doing something wrong, but it turns out, they aren't.
THIS POLISH WOULD NOT DRY.
I used Seche Vite as usual - but it didn't dry. I took a nap and 2 hours later, still not dry!

Four hours after applying the manicure I scraped it all off because I realized that it just wasn't going to solidify beyond the outermost layer.

Ugh!
So what did I do, after hating the crap out of this polish and considering breaking it out of angst?
...I ordered Bad Romance.

  2. What about writing to Revlon? Maybe this one was just a bad one (despite others having the same problem)? I wonder if they'd send you another one. Now you have ME wondering about Revlon polishes. Thinking back to Purplex, Minted, Craving Coral and Carbonite, it seemed to dry normally... Same with Vixen and Autumn Berry. Wonder if its the glitters only?

    1. it could be a bad bottle! but i'm likely to say no, this one just doesn't mix with my body chemistry. i have revlons that other people have problems with, but find them perfect!
it is so weird how they are hit or miss.

    2. I know what you mean about body chemistry. Everyone seems to love OPI, but OPI does NOT love me! LOL

    3. OPI does not love me either, it chips away in no time! Before I learned the body chemistry thing, I was baffled by all the bloggers gushing about it.

  3. Unfortunate! It looks great in the photos, though. :( I bought this color the other day, but I haven't tried it yet. I didn't have a problem with Whimsical. Maybe you just got a 'bad' bottle? Eek. I'm scared to try it, but I'm a glutton for punishment, so I will anyway. xD

    2. It seems like they are hit or miss, like you said. I had a pink Revlon years ago that didn't work too well. It was streaky and just entirely unappealing.

  4. You really had such a problem with this? huh I didn't. I used one coat of WnW Black creme then two coats of this and I was all ready to do things with my hands again in about an hour. Without a fast dry top coat either. I never had that problem with a revlon polish before. Weird. I'm so sorry you hated this, I love this polish and the really pretty blue glitter one!

    1. maybe if i had done it over black, it would have been better! i did three coats :(

    2. same here. I don't have any problem with this or any Revlon polishes.. :D

  5. My whimsical (2 coats over a base colour) takes a solid hour to be undentable even with seche vite, drying spray, and soaking in some cold water. My facets of fuchsia is okay though? But I only did one layer over a black base.. hrm.. curious indeed.

    1. another revlon problem polish!! hehe. it blows my mind a little how everyone finds them so different - i bought a whimsical for a friend who had no issues!

  6. I've never had a problem with Revlon polishes. I'm surprised to hear it's a common issue... Maybe I just have that weird body chemistry that Revlon dries on? It wouldn't surprise me, considering sharpie sweats off my skin in three seconds and every shampoo I use does the opposite of what it's supposed to -- straightening shampoos leave me curly, curl-enhancing shampoos make it stick-straight, anti-frizz shampoos turn my head into a fluffball...

In fact, I have the repromote of this, Scandalous, and it dried just fine for me.

  7. I'm so sorry you had to suffer paying $20+ for a Deborah Lippmann =[

  8. My two Revlons NEVER dried never ever! I had Minted and Lilac Pastel. They took 60 coats to make fully opaque and never dried. I even had the quick dry spray and a quick dry top coat.

  9. That really sucks, because it looks absolutely gorgeous on you. I have this problem with a lot of revlons- I love the new Colorstays, though. Sadly those ones have no glitters yet!

  10. weird! My Scandalous dried pretty quickly and I actually like it better than my DL I would have swapped ya for the DL if I'd known!

  11. oh my god. I just bought this polish last week =/ haven't tried it yet, but damn.. i hope mine dries..

I'm only out a buck if it doesn't, big lots is the neatest!

  12. I have this polish and it dries perfectly and I absolutely love it! It also looks great on you :)
(Here's a link to my post about the same polish, in case you're interested: http://rainbowifyme.blogspot.dk/2012/02/revlon-scandalous.html)

  13. I have a bottle of this I haven't used yet. Kind of a bummer it didn't work out for you. Maybe I'll give it a go just to see if it works different for me.

  14. That's odd. My Revlon FofF dries. I only used it about 3 times and did use very thin coats letting each dry completely before adding the next. I have (and had) Bad Romance before getting FofF - I like both - they are not exact dupes in my book - close but not the exact same thing. Revlon is a bit brighter and mine seems to have a tish more purple to it. My DL BR has a thinner, more sheer black base to it.

  15. i am sure that polish is called scandalous here in australia it looks really close to it. it is funny i never seem to have issues with polish but the other day i had 2 issues! my bottle of chinaglaze optical illusion i did my usual base coat of sally hansen instadry base coat(i ALWAYS USE) then 2 coats of optical illusion and within a couple of hours the whole polish dropped off like a nail had come off or something! i tried again with cleaning my nails etc and it happened again! then i went to put on black soot sally hansen and it would not set no amount of SV or anything it just went like putty! bizarre huh!

    1. I've only ever had a polish pop off like that once, but yeah it's weird! I've had some polishes (about half the L.A. Colors polishes I've tried, and one base coat that made everything do it) act like the peel-off polishes they make for little kids, it would get fully dry and then a little later after doing things with my hands I'd notice it starting to lift off my nail tips, and if I poked at it a little I could just peel the whole thing off easy as pie.

  16. Yea I swatched mine once and was over it lol

  17. I don't remember if I had drying issues with my Facets Of Fuschia BUT I couldn't get it to completely cover my tips. I remember you posting about a glitter polish that did the same and I thought it was weird a polish wouldn't cover, but then it happened with FofF. I will for sure use WnW black creme under it next time!

  18. Try using thin coats, and letting each dry between applications. It's a slow process, but worth it!

  19. This one has been on my Wl for ages, but I just can't get it! :(

  20. Sorry about the drying time, but it looks gorgeous!

  21. Oh nooooo and it looks so amazing!!!!!! I HATE polishes that don't dry. What are you supposed to use them for??

    ReplyDelete
  22. This makes me feel a little better about the fact that Revlon don't sell any pretty polishes in the UK.

  23. I picked up Scandalous and it dried fine. A couple of weeks later, I found a Starry Pink in the clearance bin at Walgreens and it takes about an hour to fully dry.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I absolutely love that color!

  25. Ohhh, what a shame... The nail polish looks so nice.
    Xoxo

  26. This polish also wouldn't dry on me :( I'm thinking instead of trying to do 2-3 coats of it, I'll layer one coat of this over black and see if that helps. It was annoying because Revlon costs about $15 where I live! :( I have plenty of other Revlons though and they dry fine, except Popular/Starry Pink.. So maybe it's just the glitters in coloured bases. I have some of their glitters in clear bases and they dry fine.

  27. I have Whimsical and this color and have the same problems with drying. I've always ended up using a similar color base and then using just one or MAAAAAAYYBE two coats to get the same look. Cos, seriously, they are LOVELY colors.

It's why I usually end up saving my pennies for a long time to get the more expensive polishes. Seems like it doesn't really matter if the color is great and cheap if it doesn't actually work. I consider not drying not working, but I may be wrong.

  28. I used it over a "Kleancolor Metalic Purple", with "Out The Door" top coat over it. Did not have any problem (you can take a look at my blog post of April). I don't wear polish with big glitters often because they're a pain in the butt to take off! lol

    1. Use the foil method for glitter removal! It will change your life!

  29. I have this nail polish and it applied normally... maybe it was a bad batch. Or mayne I got a good batch? I matte-ified mine, maybe that made the difference :)

  30. Sorry you had a problem with yours - mine worked fine.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well it looks pretty! Too bad it wouldn't dry. I have this but haven't worn it yet. Now I'm scared to.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Did you get a dud bottle maybe? I have this, wore it last week actually and it dried fine for me, no different than any other polish. I actually layered it over a shimmery dark red shade and it looked really gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  33. this polish looks so beautiful! wish it wasn't so sucky :(

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have the same exact problem with mine. :(

  35. That's weird, yeah, it seems like some people have the issue and others don't. Maybe just bad QA, or they were experimenting with formulas or something? All my Revlon polishes dry just fine... :( Sorry you had a bad experience! It is so pretty, but I know you'll be happy with your Bad Romance too.

  36. That's so weird. I LOVE Revlon polishes. But I almost always use a speed dry top coat so I've never had any issues with drying time. I actually have Bad Romance and the original Revlon dupe for it- Scandalous. And I have to say as far as ease in applying and staying power, Revlon's was better.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Revlon never dries on me either, and it usually bubbles horribly. I have stopped buying it, not worth the hassle no matter how nice the color looks!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Revlon is probably the most reliable polish I own, I think the trick is to use to thin coats. For scandalous (aka facets of fuchsia) I put one coat of a black nail polish on first and it really helped. Love Revlon.

I am currently running a challenge on my blog http://theblogforbeautifulliving.blogspot.com.au/. Would love it if you would have a look at my blog :)
    Cheers
