my first drippy manicure!

Hey guys!
Nail art post today! I need to start trying to do more of these.

I am currently sitting on the couch, with my hair covered in Head and Shoulders, and a shower cap, and a towel, trying to semi-strip or fade my hair color. This is an awkward feeling. It is bubbling.
I just need to lighten my hair a few shades before I dye it back to my usual red.
I feel silly.
(If this sounds weird to you, Head and Shoulders is really strong and bad for colored hair so a lot of people use it when they want to lighten their color.)

I was wearing this lovely color a few days ago:

Essie - Lapis of Luxury. Such a pretty periwinkle blue.
My friend Emma gave this to me! Hi Emma!!

I really wanted to do some art but I could NOT figure out what I wanted to do.
And I stood around staring at my polishes trying to figure out what to do.
I found the color I wanted to use with it - Color Club - Uptown Girl. I knew the colors would look awesome together because they're both muted shades.

After seriously about 20 minutes of pondering, I decided to try a drippy mani!

It didn't turn out as perfect as I had hoped. It's decent but not great.

You might notice the giant piece of hair or bristle or whatever it is on my ring finger.
It came from the brush on a brand new bottle of Seche Vite.
I saw it go onto my nail and said "NOOOOOO," but I knew I couldn't get it off without ruining the manicure.

I did this with my dotting tools, I used a bunch of different sizes to create the different drips.

I really liked this and I want to try it again.
I'm considering a neon green and pink one as my Katy Perry manicure! Maybe with the colors from Starry Temptress! Ooh, I like where that is going. Haha!

I've had this Head and Shoulders on my hair for 15 minutes now... I wonder how long I should leave it...
Wish me luck!

  1. Good luck with your hair, I know what you mean about using the ones bad for coloured hair when you want it to lighten..

Really cute mani, i am thinking of trying one of these but i can't pick colours.. i like the Katy Perry idea can't wait to see!

  2. It looks great, I like these two colours together. :>

  3. Love the drippyness! =P The colours are pretty, they work well with each other =]
And good luck with the hair! =D

  4. These are really cute I think it would be even better with neon colors!!(: Good luck with your hair I hope it all works out well!

  5. That's really interesting about Head & Shoulders - I didn't know that!
And those colours look really awesome together.

  6. This is gorgeous . I will be trying this with my dotting tools as soon as possible . They did come out pretty good !

  11. It looks great!!!
Let us know how do you get on with your hair! I noticed how much it strips colour one day when I washed my hair with head and shoulders by mistake

  12. awesome ! you're very talented ;)

  13. Love Love Love the manicure !
So if my hair is dyed and I want it lighter I just wash it with H&S ? I wanna wash my hair with head and shoulders then !
Does it fade nicely or in a weird way ? I mean does it look good like that or do you need to dye over it ?
Does it lighten the dyed color or just make your natural color show up ?
Wow a whole lot of questions, I hope you don't mind :D
    Xx. S

  14. Super cute!! I like the colours you chose. I'm thinking of trying a sundae style drippy manicure :) Let me know how the Head and Shoulders turns out... my last batch of dark brown hair dye decided to be black instead so I'm waiting impatiently for it to fade back to it's usual lighter brown... if Head and Shoulders works I'm giving it a shot!! Do you put it on wet or dry hair?

  15. Awesome color choice! I used Uptown Girl in one of my recent manis too =)

  16. Holy crapoly! That is too damn cute! :)

  17. Love the mani !
On the hair front if the h&s doesn't strip enough of your colour crush up a vitamin c tab and mix it with the shampoo in your hand just before putting on hair and leave it on for about 30-40 mins, this is what we used to strip disastrous hair colour gently in the salon I work in and it pretty much strips the dye by about 80% on most people (but shhhh I didn't tell ya that LOL)

  18. Nice colour combination, and this nail art looks like fun :)
